Hallo Gary! Ich hab gelesen dass du eine Sony R1 (noch?) hast; stimmt's?
(Hello Gary, I've read you to (still?) have a Sony R1; is it?
Menko D. Christoph 21-Aug-2019 22:05
Gary, I just stumbled onto your photo gallery/pictures via Google. Then I was reading about your F-4E aerial victories out of Phu Cat, crediting you with two MiG 21s in 1972. Quite impressive and very remarkable. Since I am a native German, who also served for 20 years in the USAF, I still have strong ties to the home land, mostly in Baden Wuertemberg and Hessen. Perhaps we can hook up next time I'm visiting my family in Europe.
Cheers aka "Prost",
Menko

What a small world! That was a long time ago. I am about 10 K's from Spang and it has changed a lot over the years. Hope you got some good use out of that camera!
Guest 28-Nov-2016 16:22
I'm guessing you were in the 49thTFW in 1966?
If so, I am the fellow who bought your B&J 4x5 view camera.
I used the camera while a student at Brooks Institute.

Dear Sir,
I was stationed at Clark Air Base in the early 80's. I used to see 68-0468 on a daily basis. It was boasting that red star on the splitter and I used to wonder. 31 years later, I found your story on the internet and finally learned the history of that aircraft. Very much appreciative of your service.

I still display your images in my studio. As a mattee of fact lots of AF personell wanted to buy your signed F4 you gave ti me as a gift.
To remind you of me, I had the frame shop on base in Spang.

Gary,
I saw a link to your pictures from the website dpreview.com. I was stunned to see those beautiful sunset images, then the Fall image from your balcony. I thought, what a gorgeous place! Then I saw your profile and said you were in Germany and I thought, no wonder!! What a gorgeous place. I'm in Texas, but my father was U.S. Army and my mother is German from Radldorf, near Straubing. I visited my Oma there as a child last time when I was 10 in 1971. To this day, I still remember fondly picking berries in the woods, swimming in the Laber river. What wonderful childhood memories. Strange that those are the few memories I had while we lived in Germany. We were stationed first in 1966-68 in Manheim, then in 1971 in Zweibrucken. My mother is 78, but I'm trying to convince her to visit one last time in her life. When we were in Zweibrucken, we visited Trier with neighbors, and I still remember the gorgeous drive into that city, with apple and pear trees lining the road and all the gorgeous hills with grapevines near the Moselle river.
Must be like living in Heaven there in Eisenschmitt. My Oma's maiden name was Eisenmann.
That's too funny.
Thank you for the wonderful memories

Gale, Himmerod is located between the villages of Eisenschmitt and Grosslittgen.
The closest real town is Wittlich. We are about 45 K's north of Trier (the oldest city in Germany) and about the same from the Luxemburg border. The coordinates are 50 01' 40" 6 45' 23" and you can cut and paste those into Google Earth.

Got your name off the Digital Photography Review website regarding the Sony DSC-F828 camera. I recently borrowed the camera from a buddy who now has so many digital cameras he wishes he were an octopus. Anyhow, as I am slowly learning how to use the camera, I am trying to figure out how to manually set the ISO. Could you help? Thank you.

Thank you, Stefani! Believe me, you have enough subject material in Arizona to keep you busy for a life time! I love the Southwest and hope to get back again.
Stefani 05-Jun-2005 17:45
Very nice gallery. I one day would love to visit Germany. You have some photos from the grand canyon and Southwest USA, that I am very envious of, and I live in Arizona. I am new to photography, so I guess I just have to get out more.

Gary, your gallery is exceptionally well done and to be admired. You really have that F717 going to work for you. Sunsets, portraits, et all., are interesting to view. Your balcony must be quite a platform for your photography! Congrats, Gale
